Fanatec CSL DD Force Feedback Settings

Best Assetto Corsa Competizione Fanatec Force Feedback Settings: CSL DD, GT DD Pro + More (2)

Fanatec CSL DD

  • Direct Drive quality on a budget
  • Compatible with Xbox & PC

The Fanatec CSL DD, and the GT DD Pro, are both incredibly powerful mid-range racing wheels. Both feature direct drive technology, and are capable of up to 8Nm of torque.

Both the incredibly performance and the lower price point, make the CSL DD and GT DD Pro great choices for sim racing in Assetto Corsa Competizione.

The settings below were created using the CSL DD at its more powerful 8Nm setting. If you are racing with the 5Nm version, increase the force feedback setting to 100% on the wheel base. Also, increase the gain in Assetto Corsa Competizione close to 100%.

Fanatec GT DD Pro

  • Direct Drive quality on a budget
  • PS5 compatible + Gran Turismo licensed

The Fanatec GT DD Pro is the PlayStation 5 compatible equivalent of the CSL DD. As mentioned above, this wheel is a great choice for Assetto Corsa Competizione thanks to its very detailed force feedback. The settings here are incredibly similar to our CSL DD settings due to both wheels performing almost identically.

Fanatec DD1 / Podium F1 Force Feedback Settings

Best Assetto Corsa Competizione Fanatec Force Feedback Settings: CSL DD, GT DD Pro + More (4)

Fanatec Podium F1

  • The best force feedback available
  • Exclusively compatible with PS5 & PC

Both the Fanatec Podium F1 and the DD1 share the same wheel base. This allows our in-game settings to be the same for both of these Fanatec wheels.

The DD1 is an incredibly powerful direct drive wheel base, capable of 20Nm of peak torque. Due to the strong sustained power, I have lowered some strength settings to make for a more comfortable sim racing experience. If you fancy stronger force feedback, increase the FF setting on the wheel base.

The Fanatec DD2 is a step up over the DD1. It offers even more peak torque, making it Fanatec’s most high-performing wheel base.

Best Assetto Corsa Competizione Fanatec Force Feedback Settings: CSL DD, GT DD Pro + More (6)

Fanatec Formula V2.5X

  • Best Fanatec designed F1 wheel rim
  • Upgraded over the V2

While the ClubSport Wheel Base V2 is no longer available to purchase from Fanatec, it still offers great performance.

This wheel base falls into Fanatec’s previous generation of wheel bases before the introduction of the CSL DD and GT DD Pro. It uses belt-driven technology which doesn’t produce as detailed force feedback as direct drive.

How to set up Fanatec wheel with Assetto Corsa Competizione

Follow the steps below to correctly connect your Fanatec wheel to your PC or console, and set it up ready for sim racing in Assetto Corsa Competizione.

    1. Mount your wheel base

All modern Fanatec racing wheels are direct drive, and capable of creating strong forces. Ensure your wheel base is mounted to a stable surface such as a sim rig or wheel base.

    2. Connect your wheel base to your console or PC

Once mounted, connect both the USB data cable and the power cables to your wheel base. If you are using independent pedals, connect them to your PC via USB. If you are racing on a console, connect your pedals to your wheel base.

    3. Update your wheel base

If you are racing on PC, download the correct drivers and the Fanatec Control Panel. Follow our guide to updating your Fanatec firmware here to update your wheel.

    4. Adjust your Fanatec wheel settings

You can change your Fanatec wheel settings either directly through the wheel base or via the Fanalab software. Use the tuning button on your steering wheel to access the tuning menu on your wheel base. Follow our recommended force feedback settings below for your specific wheel.

    5. Adjust the settings in Assetto Corsa Competizione

Once your wheel base has the correct settings applied, start up ACC. Then head to the options and adjust the in-game wheel settings.

Assetto Corsa Competizione Force Feedback Settings Explained

Before we show you the recommended wheel settings for each Fanatec wheel base. Let’s take a quick look at what each ACC force feedback setting actually does.

It’s good to know what each setting in game does and how it affects your wheel’s behaviour. This way you will know what to tweak to make your settings fit your driving style perfectly.

    --- Article continues below ---

    Steer Lock

This setting is possibly the easiest to understand. It essentially affects the overall steering lock of your wheel. 1080 degrees means your wheel will turn 1080 degrees from full lock left, to full lock right. 360 degrees means you can turn your wheel 180 degrees either way. Simples.

Read our complete list of all correct steering lock settings for each car in ACC.

    Gain

Gain is essentially your force feedback strength setting. The higher this is set, the stronger the forces will be sent through your wheel. Be careful not to turn this up too high, however. As too much gain can cause force feedback clipping. This is when all of the feedback is so strong, that some extreme forces are too strong to be detailed through your wheel.

If your wheel is experiencing FFB clipping, you won’t feel the difference between a small bump, and a huge impact. All strong forces will essentially be using 100% FFB, meaning they all feel the same.

    Min Force

This is an adjustment that accounts for wheels with a force feedback deadzone in the center. This only really applies to low powered wheels such as the Logitech G29 and some Thrustmasters. We won’t be adjusting this setting for any of our Fanatec wheel base FFB settings. Leave this at 0.

    Dynamic Damping

This is a more advanced take on what other games call wheel damping. It essentially makes the wheel feel heavier depending on the angle of your front wheels. The faster you go, the strong this effect gets, making it harder to turn your wheel under some load.

    Road Effects

This is an artificial force feedback effect, designed to simulate forces that normally you would feel through the car and seat. These can include bumps and shakes etc. They can feel unnatural coming through the wheel, and in some cases can mask actual force feedback effects. Again, we won’t touch this setting and will leave it at zero for all wheel bases.

How to increase force feedback acc? ›

A higher gain setting means more force produced. Gain is a quick and easy way to change the intensity of the FFB, however, if set too high, it can cause “Clipping”. Minumum force: is the constant force applied to the steering wheel to keep it centered.

Is the Fanatec GT DD Pro the same as the CSL DD? ›

Compatability. With both wheel bases using essentially the same internal architecture, the main point of difference is the added compatibility that the GT DD Pro has. When it comes to deciding which wheel base to buy between the CSL DD vs GT DD Pro, this will be your biggest decision.

Does the CSL DD have force feedback? ›

Direct Drive: Fidelity, Dynamic Range, and Force Feedback

The CSL DD's force feedback, amplified by Fanatec's patented FluxBarrier technology, is really, really impressive.

What is the best force feedback? ›

❌ Force feedback is a bit much: If you prefer more subtle feedback with your racing wheel, you may want one that opts for a rumble motor instead. What makes the Thrustmaster T300 RS one of the best racing wheels is its impeccable force feedback system.

What is a good amount of force feedback? ›

A moderate force feedback level, typically in the range of 5-10 Nm, is beneficial for this style of racing. Wheels like the Simagic Alpha Mini and Moza R9 are ideal as they provide enough feedback to feel the car's rear end slipping while maintaining control.

What is the frequency of the FFB in Assetto Corsa Competizione? ›

Frequency – This is the rate of output signal from the game to the wheel. For all modern wheels, this should be left at 333Hz.

Is CSL DD smoother than DD1? ›

And with Fanatec's improved motor, the CSL DD might actually be smoother and cleaner than the bigger DD1 and DD2.

Why is DD Pro more expensive? ›

There is a €150 difference between both the 8Nm CSL DD and 8Nm GT DD Pro, with the only difference being the addition of PS5 compatibility. That sounds like a lot of extra money just for added compatibility and makes the GT DD Pro a less obvious purchase in the entry-level to mid-range category of racing wheels.

    Is Fanatec high-end? ›

    Fanatec Podium Range

Consists of Fanatec's high-end equipment. This range is rapidly expanding, with a good selection of wheels available, however no pedals just yet, and the Podium DD1 and DD2 wheelbases are somewhat outdated now.

Is direct drive better than force feedback? ›

Direct Drive racing wheels are the most high-end and realistic sim racing wheels on the market. With less mechanical interference due to their internal design, direct-drive wheels provide a much more involved driving experience with stronger and smoother force feedback.

What is force feedback sensitivity? ›

Force Feedback Sensitivity. Adjust the point at which the steering wheel begins to provide force feedback - the means by which information about contact with the track surface is communicated to your hands.

Did Fanatec stop making CSL elite? ›

    This product is discontinued!

    What are FFB settings? ›

A quick explanation describes FFB as the relative rotational force provided by the steering wheel to replicate the in-game steering wheel movements. When driving a real car, if you turn the steering wheel to the left or right, the wheel naturally wants to pull back to centre. FFB should replicate that sensation.

Is the G29 force feedback strong? ›

Dual-motor force feedback makes you feel every tire slip and terrain change. Solid steel ball bearings in the wheel shaft give weight and durability. Stainless steel paddle shifters and floor pedals apply precision force.
